Position Summary

The Director of Practice Operations (DPO) is responsible for operational support for a clinical region. The DPO will focus on establishing professional relationships with region leadership, APP Support Center staff and region provider teams. The DPO will work closely with regional leadership to facilitate successful results for each hospital partner program.

In collaboration with the APP Regional Vice President, the DPO will assist in building foundational business processes, utilize and advance management information systems and drive process consistency as well as improvement.

Key responsibilities will include providing financial, operational and performance insight to clinical leadership and managing support from APP Support Center departments. The DPO will report to the Regional Vice President.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

Many or all of the following are done under the direction and in collaboration with both the APP Regional Vice President, APP Regional Medical Director and clinical leadership.

  • Review all relevant business data including program volume, patient acuity, provider productivity, provider documentation reports, revenue cycle, staffing and scheduling forecasts and provider cost reports.
  • Synthesize business data to provide insights to clinical leadership to support optimal business results.
  • Educate clinical leadership on business drivers and financial impact of operational metrics.
  • Identify and problem solve day-to-day site operations including matters related to payroll, credentialing, human resources, recruiting , etc. with assistance of APP Support Center departments. Assist clinical leadership with executional support in these areas.
  • Review site financial statements for accuracy and trends to explain financial performance. Identify and understand the impact of variances and enact plans to address negative variances.
  • Proactively review programs for improvement opportunities and share ideas with Regional leadership.
  • Assist RVP to develop annual budgets.
  • Assist in contract negotiation processes where applicable for hospital partner contract renewals and amendments.
  • Assist in new site implementations in conjunction with Regional Leadership and APP Support Center departments.
  • Manage working relationships with APP Support Center departments directed at achieving outcomes, building efficiency, accurate status reporting smooth escalation pathways and driving process improvement initiatives.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, healthcare administration or similar field
  • Preferred: MBA, MHA, Practice Management Certification MGMA or AAMM
  • Minimum: 3+ years’ experience working with healthcare/practice operations with working knowledge of hospital and healthcare environments.
  • Preferred:  Experience managing physician practice with expertise in billing and RCM process.  RVU knowledge and implementation expertise  and well versed on the pro fee side.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent (18+ trips/year) travel
  • Indoor office environment at corporate office
  • Sitting at desk for up to eight hours (w/breaks)
