Dr. Sullivan Smith is stepping back from a position he has been in since 1994 and taking on new challenges.
He handed the reins of emergency department director over to Dr. Ken Colaric.
“I’m still around, doing clinical shifts on the floor, but not dealing with the operations side of it,” Smith said.
As emergency department director, he hired the professional components, such as the physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and physicians.
Per state law, hospitals cannot employ radiologists, anesthesiologists, emergency room physicians and pathologists, unless the facility is under an academic setting.
Volunteer Medical Group, which Smith owned, managed those components.
